How To Move The Pictures Folder In Windows 11

Last Updated on July 28, 2026 by admin Leave a Comment

The Pictures folder is the default location for several apps to save created and imported images. For instance, the built-in Photos app saves all imported photos from your smartphone to the Pictures folder. Likewise, the built-in Windows Scan app saves scanned documents and pictures to a sub-folder of the Pictures folder.

While there is nothing wrong with saving videos and photos to the Pictures folder, saving a large number of photos and videos to the Pictures folder can reduce the space available on the Windows 11 install drive, as the Pictures folder is located on the drive where Windows 11 is installed by default. This means that when you save new files to the Pictures folder, it consumes space on your Windows 11 drive.

If your Windows 11 install drive is running out of free space, you might want to move the Pictures folder from the default Windows 11 drive to another drive on your PC. Additionally, moving the Pictures folder is a good idea, as all photos will be deleted when you format and reinstall the Windows 11 drive in the event of a system issue.
