Up until now, the Alt + Tab function allowed users to quickly switch between running programs and apps. This will change soon with the upcoming Windows 10 feature update.

In Windows 10 version 2009, Windows 10 displays all Microsoft Edge tabs in the Alt + Tab. That is, tabs or webpages that are open in the Edge browser will now show up in Alt + Tab in addition to running programs and open File Explorer windows.

According to Microsoft, this new feature will help Edge browser users to switch between open tabs quickly and easily.

Although some users might find this feature handy, most users will dislike it as it is going to clutter the Alt + Tab screen. Imagine what happens to Alt + Tab when you have 30 plus tabs open in Edge!

Luckily, you can turn this feature off if you do not want to see tens of tabs in Alt + Tab. When you turn off the function, the Alt + Tab screen will display only the Edge window instead of open tabs.

Disable Edge tabs from showing up in Alt + Tab

Here is how to stop Edge from showing all open tabs in Alt + Tab of Windows 10.

Step 1: Open the Windows 10 Settings app. This can be done by simultaneously pressing the Windows logo and I keys.

Step 2: In the Settings app, navigate to System > Multitasking tab.

Step 3: On the Multitasking page, in the Alt + Tab section, you will see the “Pressing Alt + Tab shows” option. From the drop-down box, select the “Open Windows only” option if you wish to see only the windows of running programs, including Edge.

If you wish to see Edge tabs but do not want to clutter the Alt + Tab, select Open Windows and 3 most recent tabs in Edge or Open Windows and 5 most recent tabs in Edge option.

This will declutter your Alt + Tab screen for sure.

NOTE: If the Alt + Tab section is missing or not showing up, it is likely because you are running version 2004 or a previous version of Windows 10. You must be running version 2009 (also known as 20H2) in order to see the Alt + Tab section.

Did you know you can use the Alt + Tab screen to close running programs as well?
