Is the Windows 11 taskbar not showing the year next to date and month? Do not worry! It’s not a bug! A recent update has changed how date and clock appear on the taskbar in Windows 11.
By default, the recent builds of Windows 11 do not display the year on the taskbar. Instead, it shows only the date and month!
Microsoft may have hidden the year by default to free up some space on the taskbar and make the taskbar look clean, as the year is a non-essential piece of information, considering that the year changes only once a year!
While it’s true that only date and month are the most frequently needed pieces of information and users generally know the current year by memory, most Windows users are used to seeing the year on the taskbar. Moreover, hiding the year will not save much space as well.
If you prefer to have the year visible on the Windows 11 taskbar, you can change the default settings to force Windows 11 to show the year along with the date and month on the taskbar.
Display the year next to date and month on Windows 11 taskbar
Step 1: Open the Settings app by right-clicking the Windows logo icon on the taskbar and then clicking the Settings option. If you love keyboard shortcuts, use Windows logo + I to open Settings.
Step 2: On the left pane of the Settings app, click Time & language. Now, on the right side, click Date & time.
Step 3: Click Show Time and date in the System tray to reveal available options.
Here, you need to deselect the Show abbreviated time and date option to make the Windows 11 taskbar display year along with the date and time. Note that turning on the option also shows AM/PM (when using the 12-hour format) next to the time for your convenience.
Show the year on the Mac menu bar
Just like the new Windows 11 taskbar, the macOS menu bar also does not display the year by default. If you wish to see the year next to the date and time, unfortunately, you need to use third-party apps!
