Last Updated on October 19, 2026 by admin Leave a Comment

People who travel often like to carry power banks so they can charge their smartphones on the go. Did you know you can also use your laptop as a power bank, even when it’s turned off?

Yes, most of the Lenovo laptops come with a USB port that is always turned on. The port is called always on USB and is indicated with a battery icon next to it.

The feature helps you connect your smartphone (or any other device that needs power) to your Lenovo laptop and charge it without having to turn on the laptop. That is, the always on USB port can be used to charge your smartphone when your Lenovo laptop is in sleep, hibernation, or shut down.

The always on USB port on Lenovo laptops is a handy feature. That said, many users might not want to keep any USB port turned on for safety reasons.

This guide shows you how to turn on or off the always on USB port on a Lenovo laptop.

Use the official Lenovo Vantage app to turn on the Always on USB port

Step 1: Install the Lenovo Vantage app from the Microsoft Store, if not installed already.

Step 2: On the left pane, click the Menu icon and then click Device settings.

Needless to say that turning off the always on USB port turns it off only when the laptop is turned off.

Please note that not all USB ports work as always on USB. Most laptops have only one always on USB port. A battery icon next to a USB port indicates it’s an always on USB port.

Turn on or off the always on USB port via BIOS on Lenovo laptops

Step 1: Save your work and restart your laptop.

Step 2: Press the F2 or Enter key repeatedly once you see the Lenovo logo on your screen until you see the BIOS screen.

Step 3: In the Configuration tab, select the Always on USB option using the arrow keys and the Enter key. Select the Enabled or Disabled option, depending on your requirements.
