How To Create Tiles With Custom Colors On Start Screen

Over the last few weeks, we have covered a number of guides on customizing the Start screen in Windows 8. We have shown you how to set a custom picture as Start screen background, open Start screen within desktop, display time on Start screen, pin pictures as tiles, and more.

One of the limitations of Windows 8 Start screen is that you can’t set your own color for tiles on the Start screen. Users who are looking for a tool to create tiles on Start screen with custom color will be glad to know that it’s no possible to create tiles with custom colors.

OblyTile

A few week back, we first covered about OblyTile in our how to create new tiles on Start screen to launch programs guide. The initial version of program didn’t allow the user to select a custom color for the tile. The developer of OblyTile recently updated the program and it now lets you select a your own color.

Users who have read our create tiles on Start screen guide probably know about this wonderful tool. If you have missed it, OblyTile is a free tool to create custom tiles on Start screen with your desired color.

Download (link available at the end of this article), run the program, enter a name for your new tile, browse the file of which you want to create a tile, select an image of the tile (will be used as icon) and then select background color for the tile. You are done! Just click Create Tile to see the new tile on the Start screen.

OblyTile is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 8.
