The all-new Start menu is genuinely one of the best features of the Windows 10 operating system. There are plenty of settings to customize the default look of the Start menu, but there is no option out there to create custom tiles.

Win10Tile

Win10Tile is a new software designed to help Windows 10 users create and pin custom tiles to the Start menu. Unlike some other tools out there, like Tile Creator, for instance, this tool is fairly easy-to-use and, more importantly, doesn’t require a universal version of the app to be installed to get started.

With Win10Tile, you can create custom tiles by selecting your own icon or image for the tile and background color for the tile. The tool allows you to create and pin tiles with or without adding labels for tiles. The initial version of Win10Tile supports only small and medium tiles, but you can expect support for other tile sizes in upcoming releases.

The cool thing is that custom tiles created using the Win10Tile support jump list and context menu.

How to use Win10Tile to customize the tiles on Start

Step 1: Visit this page and download the latest version of Win10Tile. Extract the RAR file, either using WinRAR or 7-Zip (free) to get a folder labeled Win10Tile. Open up the Win10Tile folder to see Win10Tile.exe file.

Step 2: Double-click on Win10Tile.exe file to launch the program, installation is not required.

Step 3: Once the program is launched and running, select the program name from the list who’s tile you want to customize.

To create new tile of a program which is not present in the Win10Tile program list, enter the path to the application that you want to pin to the Start menu as tile in Application target field. Then proceed with instructions mentioned in Step 4 & 5.

Step 4: Select either 150x 150 or 70×70 image field, click select image button, browse to the image that you want to use and then click the Open button.

Step 5: By default, Win10Tile doesn’t display labels on tiles. If you prefer to do so, select Show label box before clicking the Save button.

And before you jump to the download page, please keep in mind that this program supports only Windows 10 with November Update (Threshold 2). If you’re using pre-Threshold 2 Windows 10, please update to the latest version to use this excellent piece of software.
