3 Ways To Relocate Installed Applications And Games In Windows 10

Last Updated on May 18, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Some programs and games allow you to choose installation location while some not. If you have plenty of programs and games on your system drive (the drive where Windows operating system is installed), you might want to move huge programs/games to another drive to free up a good amount of free space.

Moving a program or game is not as simple as moving a file or folder. Installed programs/games can be moved to a new location or drive by creating symbolic links to folders of programs/games. While this can be achieved even without the help of third-party programs, the job certainly is not easy as it sounds.

Luckily, there are third-party utilities out there to help you create symbolic links and move installed programs in Windows 10 operating system.

In this article, we are covering the three free programs that enable you to move installed programs and games without a sweat.

NOTE: There is a built-in option in Windows 10 to move apps and games installed from the Store. However, it cannot move classic desktop programs or games.

FolderMove

We recently covered about FolderMove software. FolderMove is a free software designed to allow you to relocate installed games and programs with ease. The program does not require installation, and the size is under 1 MB.

Steam Mover

Steam Mover is a popular program that helps you relocate installed programs without reinstalling them. Although the name indicates to move Steam games, Steam Mover supports both games and classic desktop programs.

This free program sports an easy to understand user interface and has been around for a while now.

Application Mover

Another free program out there to move programs and games without breaking them. Application Mover is more or less like two of the programs mentioned above. You just need to select the current install folder of the program or game you want to move and select a new location to move the program/game.

The application adds App Mover to the folder context menu from where you can quickly launch the program to start moving programs.

The only catch is that you need to install it to run it. There are separate installers out there for 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Be sure to download the right version.
