7 Ways To Open “This PC” In Windows 11

With Windows 8.1, Microsoft renamed the Computer to This PC. In Windows 10 and Windows 11, this PC shows all internal and external drives.

In Windows 11, the File Explorer opens to Home instead of This PC. Although you can configure the Windows File Explorer to always open to This PC instead of Home, there are other ways to open This PC on Windows 11 PCs.

The following are the seven easy ways to open This PC on Windows 11 PCs.

NOTE: You can also create a keyboard shortcut to open This PC in Windows 11.

Method 1 of 7

Open This PC from File Explorer in Windows 11

Step 1: Open File Explorer by searching, using the Windows logo + E hotkey, or clicking its icon in the taskbar.

Step 2: In the navigation pane of File Explorer (also called left pane), click the This PC entry to navigate to This PC.

Another way to open This PC from File Explorer in Windows 11

Step 1: Open Windows File Explorer.

Step 2: In the address bar, type This PC and then press the Enter key to open This PC immediately.

Open This PC from the desktop in Windows 11

This PC icon does not show up on the Windows 11 desktop by default settings. However, you can add This PC to the desktop by dragging and dropping This PC from the File Explorer to the desktop.

Once This PC is added to the desktop, you can double-click its icon on the desktop to open the same.

Open This PC using search in Windows 11

Step 1: In the Start menu or taskbar search, type This PC to see This PC in the search results.

Step 2: Click the This PC entry in the search result to open the same.

Open This PC from the Command Prompt or Terminal in Windows 11

Step 1: Type CMD or Terminal in the Start or taskbar search and then press the Enter key to open Command Prompt or Terminal.

Step 2: At the Command Prompt or Terminal window, type explorer file:\\ and then press the Enter key to execute the command that opens This PC in a new window of File Explorer.

Launch This PC from the Run command box in Windows 11

Step 1: Simultaneously press the Windows logo and R keys to open the Run command dialog. Alternatively, you can also use the search to open the Run command.

Step 2: Type explorer file:\\ and then press the Enter key to open This PC in File Explorer.

Launch This PC from the taskbar in Windows 11
