How To Use CCleaner To Clean Context Menu

Last Updated on June 18, 2013 by admin Leave a Comment

CCleaner was one of the first tools released to optimize and cleanup Windows by deleting temporary files, web browsing history, and other unwanted files. Over the years, the developer of the program has updated it with a number of new functionalities and it’s now the best, free maintenance tool available for Windows.

CCleaner has always been a good maintenance software. It lets you uninstall programs, remove programs from Windows startup, manage your system restore points, securely erase drive contents, cleanup & optimize registry, cleanup Windows and other installed applications.

Windows users who have been using CCleaner to cleanup Windows, applications, and registry now have another good reason to use this freeware. CCleaner 3.20 and above versions include an option to remove or disable unwanted program entries from context menus (right-click menus).

To use this new feature, run the program, click Tools, click Startup, and then switch to Context menu tab to start removing unwanted entries from the context menu. You can either completely delete an entry form the context-menu or simply disable the entry so you can enable the same again at any time. Note that deleting a program entry from the context menu doesn’t remove the program from your system. So, you can safely use this feature.

Also note that this version of CCleaner, unlike some programs, doesn’t help you remove default Windows entries from the context menu. That is, for instance, you can’t remove Restore previous Versions and Create shortcut entries from context menus.

Visit the developer’s page (link provided at end of this article) to start downloading the latest version. A single setup is available for both x86 and x64 versions of Windows. Users who want to try out the program before installing or need a version of the program to carry on USB flash drives can download the portable version of the software available at the download page.

CCleaner supports Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 as well as the latest Windows 8 operating systems.
