How To Import Bookmarks Into Edge Browser

Last Updated on December 14, 2019 by admin 13 Comments

Microsoft Edge is the new default web browser in Windows 10 operating system. Its elegant user interface, ability to save and manage web passwords, ability to make notes on webpages, reading view, reading list, and the page loading speed make it one of the best web browsers around.

For all these years if you were using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft’s own Internet Explorer as your default web browser and now planning to use Microsoft Edge as your default browser, you might want to know if it’s possible to import bookmarks (also known as favorites) from other browsers like Chrome and Firefox into Microsoft Edge.

Just like any other web browser out there for Windows, the Edge browser also supports importing bookmarks or favorites into it. While it doesn’t support importing bookmarks from a file, you can import bookmarks from Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer installation.

In simple words, unlike Firefox or Chrome, it doesn’t support importing bookmarks from an HTML file, but it can import bookmarks from Firefox or Chrome browser installation. That said, there is an easy workaround to overcome this problem as well.

To import bookmarks in the Edge browser, complete the given below instructions.

Method 1: Import bookmarks from another browser

Method 2: Import bookmarks from an HTML file

Method 1 of 2

Import bookmarks into Edge from another browser

NOTE: Importing bookmarks/favorites from another browser also imports browsing history, cookies, passwords, and settings into the Edge browser. There is no option out there to select only favorites/bookmarks while importing from a web browser. However, there is an option to import favorites from an HTML file (mentioned in Method 2), which you can use to import only favorites.

Step 1: Fire up the Microsoft Edge browser.

Step 2: Click More actions (…) menu and then click Settings to open the same.

Step 3: Here, in the Transfer favorites and other info section, click on the Import or export button.

Step 4: Select the browser from where you would like to import favorites, browsing history, cookies, and passwords, and then click the Import button to import all bookmarks.

To export your Edge favorites to an HTML file, in the Import or export a file section, select the Favorites radio button and then click Export to file button. Select a location to save the HTML file.

Method 2

Import bookmarks into Edge from an HTML file

In addition to importing from other web browsers, the new Edge browser now supports importing favorites from an HTML file as well. Here is how to do just that.

Step 1: Click on the Settings and more icon (see picture below) and then click Settings.

Step 2: In the Transfer favorites and other info section, click on the Import or export button.

Have just wasted 45 minutes repeatedly trying to import bookmarks from Firefox to Edge using all the Import favorites instructions on the site and several other helpful sites. It keeps giving me the “All done!” message, but NOT! Enough frustration with this great new browser.

Firefox will not show up as import no matter what steps I take. I have to re-create all of my bookmarks again as I tried to have IE import bookmarks from Firefox so I could than import the book marks from IE into Edge and that did’t work as IE also won’t import from Firefox. Frustrating.
