How To Stop Snipping Tool From Automatically Saving Screenshots In Windows 11

Last Updated on January 1, 2024 by admin Leave a Comment

The Snipping Tool is the default screen-capturing software in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Although the Snipping Tool in Windows 11 is the same as the one in its predecessor, Windows 10, the Snipping Tool in the recent versions of Windows 11 has gained the ability to video record the screen as well.

With default installation settings, the Snipping Tool can be launched using Windows + Shift + S hotkey, which you can also change to Print screen key. Additionally, users can use the Windows taskbar/Start menu search function to run the Snipping Tool app and then click the appropriate option to begin capturing the screen.

As you might have observed by now, the Snipping Tool automatically saves the screen captures without user consent. That is, when you capture an area or window, Windows 11 does not ask you to select a location or type a file name to save the captured image. Instead, it automatically saves the captured image to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

If you often use the Snipping Tool and want to stop the Snipping Tool from automatically saving captured images, you can configure the Snipping Tool from stop doing it. Here is how.

Prevent Snipping Tool from automatically saving captured images

Step 1: Open the Snipping Tool app using search.

Step 2: On the extreme right of the Snipping Tool app’s toolbar, click the three dots and then click Settings to open Snipping Tool’s settings page.
