The Reset PC feature in Windows 10/11 operating system is very handy. It can save both your time and effort big time.
As you might already know, with the Reset PC feature, users can reset Windows 10/11 to default settings by keeping or deleting precious personal data.
When you reinstall Windows 10/11, all data is deleted. However, the Reset PC feature allows you to do the job by keeping the data. The best part is that Windows 10/11 lets users perform the Reset PC operation even when the PC is not booting up.
Although most users are aware of the Reset PC feature, very few use it. Few users believe that the product key is required to reset Windows 10/11.
Is the product key required to reset Windows 10/11 PC?
Windows 10/11 does not ask you to type the product key during the reset process. So, you do not need a product key to reset Windows 10/11.
However, note that this applies only to a fully activated copy of Windows 10/11 installation.
What all are deleted when you reset Windows 10/11 PC?
Windows 10/11 allows you to reset Windows 10/11 installation by keeping your data or deleting everything. If you choose to keep your data, all installed programs (except inbox apps) will be deleted. However, if you select the delete everything option, all data, including installed programs and personal data, will be erased.
How to access Reset PC in Windows 10/11?
On Windows 10, the Reset PC feature can be accessed by navigating to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery page. On Windows 11, however, the Reset PC option has been moved to Settings > System > Recovery page.
Reset PC vs. clean install?
We suggest resetting your PC if you do not want to delete personal data. Do a clean install of Windows 10/11 if you have already backed up the data or can back up the data. Both Reset PC and clean install remove all installed apps. So, you will have to install them all over again.
Reset PC vs. system restore?
The Reset PC restores Windows 10/11 installation to default settings. Whereas the system restore feature helps you restore Windows 10/11 installation to a specific date (if the system restore feature is turned on and restore points are available).
