With each new iteration of the Windows operating system, Microsoft ditches a few classic desktop programs in favor of modern apps. With Windows 10, Internet Explorer was replaced with Edge. Likewise, the Media Player app has replaced the classic Windows Media Player in Windows 11.
The new Media Player app supports most of the audio and video formats out there and is easy to use as well. However, at times, it might not open or work properly.
If the Media Player app is refusing to open or not working correctly, you can use the solutions below to fix the problem.
Reset the Media Player app on Windows 11 PC
Step 1: Open Windows 11 Settings using search.
Step 2: In the Settings app, go to Apps > Installed apps page.
Step 3: Here, ensure that the List view is selected (top right), and then look for the Media Player entry.
Once you find the Media Player entry, click the three dots next to it and then click Advanced options.
Step 4: Finally, under the Reset section, click the Reset button to reset the Media Player app immediately. Once successfully completed, a small tick sign will appear next to the Reset button.
Repair the Media Player app in Windows 11
Step 1: Navigate to Windows 11 Settings > Apps > Installed apps page.
Step 2: Select the List view from the top right.
Step 3: Look for the Media Player entry. Click the three dots next to it, and then click Advanced options.
Step 4: Lastly, click the Repair button in the Reset section to repair the Media Player app. The app should be repaired in a few seconds.
Reinstall Media Player to fix its issue in Windows 11
If repairing and resetting did not fix the issue, you can consider reinstalling the Media Player app. Reinstalling the Media Player app involves uninstalling it from your PC and then installing a fresh copy of the same from the Microsoft Store.
