Evernote requires no introduction. It’s probably one of the first apps developed to take and manage notes. Today, besides the official website, the Evernote app is available for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.
Since Evernote automatically syncs all data to the cloud, you do not need to back up your Evernote notes or data anywhere else. This means that, even after reinstalling Windows 10/11 or Mac, you just need to sign in to the Evernote account to get all the notes.
That said, some users prefer to back up their data from time to time. If you are also one of them, you might want to back up Evernote notes or data to your Windows 10/11 PC.
This guide shows you how to back up Evernote data on a Windows 10/11 PC.
As of now, Evernote offers two ways to back up data. You can either back up or export individual notes or an entire notebook. Yes, Evernote does not let you back up or export all notebooks at once. You can back up or export notebooks one at a time.
Method 1 of 2
Back up an entire Notebook from Evernote on Windows 10/11 PC
Step 1: Launch the Evernote app. Right-click on a notebook you wish to back up to your computer and then click the Export notebook option.
Step 2: In the resulting dialog, select ENEX, Single web page (.HTML), or Multiple web pages (.HTML) option.
The ENEX format is perfect if you wish to transfer the Evernote notebook to another PC or import it from another note-taking app. For instance, the UpNote app allows importing Evernote notes from ENEX files.
Select the HTML format if you would like to open and read your notes without Evernote or ENEX format supported apps.
Finally, click the Export button.
Step 3: Select a location to save the exported notebook and then click the Save button.
Depending on the size of the Evernote notebook, the Evernote app might take seconds to hours to finish the job.
Method 2 of 2
Back up individual notes in Evernote on Windows 10/11 PC
Step 1: Open the Evernote app. Right-click on a note you wish to back up and then click the Export option. If you want to back up the note as a PDF file, please click the Export as PDF option.
Step 2: If you click the Export option in the previous step, you will see the following screen where you can select the file format in which the exported note will be saved. Here, we recommend you select the ENEX format if you wish to import the note into the Evernote app (ENEX is the Evernote format). And, if you prefer to access the exported note without the Evernote app, use the Single web page (.HTML) format.
Once a format is selected, click the Export button.
And if you click the Export as PDF option in the last step, you will get the Export PDF dialog. Here, you can select the paper size, orientation, and margins. Once done, click the Export button.
Step 3: Select a location to save the note and then click the Save button. That’s it! You have successfully backed up an Evernote note.
