While the Office Word app for both Windows and Mac looks and feels very similar, some menu items and toolbars are organized differently.

On Macs, the latest version of Office Word uses Aptos as the default font. While Aptos is an elegant font, not all users might like it and might want to set their favorite font as the default font. Step 1: Launch the Word app using the spotlight search or clicking on the Word icon in the launchpad.
Step 2: Once the Word program is launched, click on the Home tab in the ribbon (refer to the picture below) and select a font and font size that you would like to set as the default font and font size in Word on Mac.
Step 3: Next, in the Word search field located in the upper right corner of the window, type set as default to see Set as default option under Actions.
Step 4: Click the Set as default option.
Step 5: Finally, when you get the following prompt, click the Yes button to set the selected font and font size as default in Word on your Mac.
Another way to set the default font and font size in Office Word on Mac
Step 1: Open the Word app and start a new document.
Step 2: Click the Format menu and then click Font to open the Font dialog, where you can customize the default font, font size, and style
Step 3: Here, under the Font tab, select the font, font style, and size that you would like to set as default.
Step 4: Finally, click the Default button.
Step 5: Select the “Base all documents on the Normal template?” radio button and then click the OK button. That’s it!
