According to some reports, nearly 5 million Gmail account details have been uploaded to an online forum. While Google has reportedly said no evidence has been found to confirm that its systems were compromised and experts have found that the uploaded archive contains outdated account information as well, it’s the right time to change your Gmail password just to be on a safer side.

Since Google hasn’t confirmed about this data breach news, it could be that all information that have been posted might be outdated or sourced from multiple sources. However, if you have a Gmail account and don’t want to let someone gain access to your account, changing your Gmail password right now makes sense.

Change Gmail password step1

Before heading to change the password, you can visit isleaked.com to check if your account information was leaked in the breach. If yes, you have no option but to change the account password as early as possible. And even if isleaked.com is reporting that Gmail account information was not included in the breach, we recommend you change the password.

Changing your Google account password

Here is how you can change your Gmail account password.

Step 1: Visit Gmail.com and sign-in by entering your email address and password. And if you have enabled two-step verification for your account, you will need to enter the verification code when you receive the same.

Step 2: Click on the small Gear icon and then click Settings to open Gmail Settings page.

Change Gmail password step2

Step 3: Here, click on Accounts and Import tab.

Step 4: Under Change account settings, click Change password link. Enter your current password, enter a new password for your account and then confirm the new password by re-entering the same.

Important: We recommend you use a mix of numbers, symbols, small and upper case letters in your password to make it strong.

Finally, click Change Password button to save the new password. That’s it!

And if you haven’t enabled two-step verification for your Google account yet, please enable two-step verification to step-up the security for your account and keep your account safe.
