How To Change Taskbar Position In Windows 11

Last Updated on October 24, 2026 by admin Leave a Comment

With Windows 11, Microsoft launched a new Start menu and taskbar. At launch, the new Start menu and taskbar lacked several features and options found in earlier versions of Windows.

The inability to change the taskbar position from the default bottom to the top, left, or right of the screen had made many users not upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Users who upgraded to Windows 11 had to rely on third-party tools to move the taskbar.

Luckily, about five years after the Windows 11 launch and based on user feedback, Windows 11 now lets you change the taskbar position without using third-party tools.

The KB 5124008 update makes moving the taskbar possible in Windows 11. Here is how to change the taskbar position in Windows 11.

Before you change the taskbar position on your PC, remember it has a limitation, at least for now. The taskbar auto-hide function might not work when the taskbar is positioned at the top, left, or right.

Step 1: Open the Windows 11 Settings app using search or any other method.

Step 2: On the left pane of the Settings app, click Personalization. On the right side, click Taskbar to see taskbar settings.

Step 3: Here, click Taskbar behaviors to see all available positions. Click on a position to move the taskbar immediately.

NOTE: If the setting is missing, it’s likely because the KB 5124008 update is not installed on your Windows 11 PC. Please go to Windows 11 Settings > Windows Update and click the Check for updates button. If the update is available, install it immediately. And if the update is not showing up, it’s possible that it’s already been installed (see how to view installed updates history), but the feature is not yet available for your PC as it’s a gradual rollout like many other features.
