The Scan app offered with Windows 11 is designed to help users scan using connected scanners and save the scanned documents/pictures in PDF or JPEG file formats.
The other day, I scanned two pages of a document (which had small images) with high DPI and saved it as a PDF file. The scanned PDF file turned out to be 64 MB! Because I had to share the PDF with my friend over email, I had to compress it, as most webmail services support attachments up to 25 MB only.
Unlike its rival macOS, Windows 10/11 does not offer a built-in option or tool to compress PDF files. For those who do not know, on Macs, the Preview app not only supports opening images and PDF files but also offers options to compress PDF files. On Windows, however, we need to either use third-party tools or online services.
While there are many online services, most users are not comfortable uploading their documents to an unknown online service due to privacy concerns.
When it comes to free PDF compression software, the PDFgear is one of the top apps. PDFgear app, in addition to compressing PDF, can also help you edit, split, merge, convert, sign, and read PDF files for free.
