In Windows 10 and 11, the area at the right end of the taskbar is called the notification area or system tray.
The taskbar notification area, by default, shows battery, volume, network, date and clock, and notification center icons. When you install a third-party app, it might also show up in the taskbar notification area.
If you have too many icons in the taskbar notification area and want to hide one or more icons from the notification area, Windows 11 offers two methods to hide icons from the taskbar notification area.
Following are the two ways to show or hide icons from the taskbar notification area in Windows 11.
Method 1 of 2
Hide icons from Windows 11 taskbar system tray (notification area)
Step 1: Drag the icon you want to hide from the taskbar system tray to the caret icon (the icon which looks similar to the up arrow) to hide the icon immediately.
The icon will be placed in the hidden icons menu, which you can access by clicking on the caret icon (^) in the system tray.
Method 2 of 2
Another way to hide icons from the taskbar system tray in Windows 11
Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to Personalization > Taskbar page.
Step 2: Here, click on the Other system tray icons to expand the same.
Step 3: To hide an icon from the taskbar system tray area, turn off the icon. To show the icon again in the system tray, turn on the icon by clicking the toggle button. Simple as that!
Bonus tip 1: Did you know that you can use keyboard shortcuts to access icons in the taskbar notification area? Yes, use Windows logo + B and then use arrow keys to area notification area icons in Windows 11.
Bonus tip 2: Use the Windows logo + N hotkey to open the notification center, which shows all recent notifications and the calendar.
