Cybercriminals are more active than ever. It’s no secret that thousands of users lose their hard-earned money daily to cyber fraud.
There are many things that you can do to stay safe online. One of the important things is to use a dedicated password manager instead of saving password managers built-in to web browsers.
Saving passwords in web browsers is not a good practice. You should use a dedicated password manager to save passwords and credit card information.
When it comes to dedicated password managers, Bitwarden is one of the most loved and used password managers. It can safely sync your passwords across your devices.
The best thing about Bitwarden is that it can import passwords saved in web browsers such as Chrome and Firefox. This guide shows you how to import passwords from Mozilla Firefox into Bitwarden.
Import passwords from Mozilla Firefox into Bitwarden
Step 1: First of all, we need to export all passwords saved in the Firefox browser to a CSV file. This is because Bitwarden cannot import passwords directly from the Firefox browser!
To export passwords from Firefox, launch it, click the Menu bar, and then click Passwords to open the Logins page.
Step 2: Here, click the three dots located in the upper right corner of the page (refer to the picture below) and then click the Export logins option.
Step 3: When you get the confirmation prompt, click the Export button. If you have set a master password, you will be asked to type the same. If not, you will be asked to type your PC’s account password or PIN.
Step 4: You will now get the Export logins dialog, where you can select a location to save the CSV file containing all usernames and passwords saved in the Firefox browser. Click Save.
Step 5: In a web browser, open the Bitwarden website and then sign in to your Bitwarden account.
Note that you cannot import passwords from the Bitwarden app on your computer. You will have to sign in to the Bitwarden web account to import passwords.
Step 6: Once signed in to Bitwarden, click Tools and then click Import data.
Step 7: Select Firefox (CSV) from the File format drop-down box, click the Choose file button, select the exported CSV file containing all Firefox passwords, and then click the Import data button to import Firefox passwords into Bitwarden. All your passwords will be imported in a few seconds.
Step 8: Now that you have successfully imported Firefox passwords into Bitwarden, we recommend you immediately delete the CSV file containing passwords.
Once you get comfortable using Bitwarden, you can delete all passwords saved in the Firefox browser as well.
