The Mail app was first introduced with Windows 8 and offered in Windows 10 and the latest Windows 11 as well. The built-in Mail app allows users to manage all email accounts from one place.
Although the Mail app in Windows 10 and 11 is not a fully loaded app like the paid Outlook desktop, it offers almost everything that you would need to manage your emails. The clutter-free interface is one of the reasons why most PC users love the Mail app.
As you know, Microsoft has started offering a new email management app called Outlook free or Outlook for Windows to replace the current Mail app. The new Outlook is a web-based app and borrows user interface clues from the Outlook.com website. In simple words, it offers the Outlook.com webpage in an app.
With the recent Windows 11 update, Microsoft has started including the new Outlook app instead of the Mail app by default. There are many Windows 10 and 11 users who are happy with the Mail app and do not want to use the new Outlook app.
If you are also one of those users who prefer the Mail app over the new Outlook app, luckily, as of writing this article, there is a way to get back the Mail app in Windows 11.
This guide shows you how to install the Mail app again in Windows 11.
Uninstall Outlook new and install the Mail app again on Windows 11
Step 1: First of all, we need to uninstall the existing Outlook app. To uninstall the existing Outlook app, go to Windows 11 Settings > Apps > Installed apps page.
Step 2: Look for the Outlook (New) entry. Click on the three dots next to the Outlook (New) entry and then click the Uninstall option.
When asked for confirmation, click the Uninstall button again to uninstall and remove the Outlook app from your Windows 11 installation.
Step 3: Now that you have uninstalled and removed the new Outlook app, open the Microsoft Store app using search.
Step 4: In the Store app, search for Mail and Calendar (yes, both are bundled into one app). In the results, click on Mail and Calendar app.
NOTE: As of writing this article in November 2023, the Mail app is still available in the Microsoft Store. We expect the Mail app to be available until the end of 2024. Installing the Mail app again will not be possible once the Mail app is pulled from the Store.
Step 5: Finally, click the Get/Install button to download and install the Mail app. Once installed, launch the app and add your email accounts to it.
Note that the Mail app would also show the “Try the new Outlook” switch at the top right of the window. If you click on it, the new Outlook will be opened.
