As some of you know, when you purchase an app from the Store in Windows 8, you can legally install the same app on up to five Windows 8 machines for free. This is a good option as many of us have multiple PCs at home.
Whenever you purchase and install apps on a new Windows 8 machine, that device gets added to the list of devices that are allowed to run the app. And when you try to install an app on a sixth device, you will be prompted to uninstall the app from one of the PCs on the list.
The only condition is that you must be using the same Microsoft account that you used purchase apps on all other PCs. In our last article, how to purchase apps from the Store in Windows 8 we detailed the steps you need to complete the buy an app from the Store. In this guide we are going to show you how to install the purchased apps on other Windows 8 PCs using the same Microsoft account.
NOTE: We assume that you are using the same Microsoft account that you used to purchase apps from the Store on this PC too.
Step 1: Switch to the Start screen. Click or tap the Store app tile to open the Store.
Step 2: Once the Store app is launched, right-click on anywhere on the Store (see how to right-click on a touch screen) to see the navigation bar. Here, you will see Home and Your Apps.
Step 3: Click or tap Your apps to see all installed and purchased apps. If you can’t see previously purchased app(s) in the list, please select All apps from the drop-down list.
Step 4: Click or tap previously purchased app(s) that you want to install on this PC to see the command bar. On the command bar, you will see Clear, View details, and Install options. Click or tap Install button to start installing the selected app(s). You are done!
