Is the built-in camera on your Windows 10/11 laptop not functioning correctly? Do you have issues with your device’s camera? If so, reinstalling the camera driver might help fix the issue.
Before you try reinstalling the camera driver, we recommend you try other basic troubleshooting methods to ensure that all camera settings are correct. For instance, if the camera is not working in a specific app, the app might not have permission to access the camera on your computer, and this can be fixed by allowing the app to access the camera under privacy settings.
If you have tried all other solutions but are unable to fix the camera problem, you can try reinstalling its driver.
Reinstall the camera driver on a Windows 10/11 laptop
Step 1: Perform a right-click on the Windows logo icon (called Start button) on the taskbar and then click the Device Manager option to open the same.
Step 2: On the Device Manager window, double-click on the Cameras tree to see your camera’s entry.
NOTE: If you have connected more than one camera to your computer, multiple entries will appear here.
Step 3: Right-click on the camera entry and then click the Uninstall device option.
Step 4: When you see the following prompt, select the Attempt to remove the driver for this device checkbox and then click the Uninstall button to uninstall the camera driver from your computer.
Step 5: After uninstalling the camera, we recommend you reboot your computer once, although not necessary.
Step 6: Head over to Settings > Windows Update (Windows 11) or Settings > Update & security > Windows Update (Windows 10), and then click the Check for updates button to download and install the correct camera driver.
If Windows Update is not installing the required camera driver, manually download the camera driver from your laptop manufacturer’s website using your laptop’s model number and then run the downloaded driver setup file to install the camera driver.
If asked, reboot your PC once to complete the driver installation.
