PC users are not new to startup or boot sound. Windows 7 and earlier versions played a chime when you turned on your PC. The startup sound, although present in Windows 8 and Windows 10, was disabled by default.

In Windows 11, the startup sound is turned on by default. The best part is that Windows 11 ships with a new startup sound, which sounds better than the startup sound offered in earlier versions.

The problem with the startup sound is that it can annoy others, particularly if you need to switch on your PC when everyone at your home is asleep or when you are in a meeting room.

If you do not want to disturb others, luckily, you can turn off the startup sound. Here is how to do it.

Tip: When you turn on your PC, you can quickly hit the mute key on the keyboard if you do not want to annoy others with the startup sound. If you do not like the sound, turning it off makes sense.

Method 1 of 2

Enable or disable startup sound via Settings in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Settings app. On the left side, click on Personalization.

Step 2: Now, on the right-side, click Themes to navigate to Settings > Personalization > Themes page.

Method 2 of 2

Turn on or off Windows 11 startup sound via Group Policy

For most users, turning off or on the startup sound via the Settings app is perfect. The Group Policy method is usually used in businesses. Needless to say, that the Group Policy Editor is not part of the Windows 11 Home edition.

Step 1: Type Edit Group Policy in the search and then hit the Enter key to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
