How To Turn On Email Notifications In Windows 8 Mail App

Toast notification is one of the hundreds of new features introduced with Windows 8. Toast notifications are brief messages that appear on the upper right-side of the screen for a few seconds when an important event takes place on your PC.

For instance, Windows 8 displays toast notification when a new app is installed on your PC. Users who don’t like to see toast notifications for a while can configure Windows 8 to hide notifications. Windows 8 lets users hide notifications for the next one, three, or eight hours.

Though all Modern UI apps don’t support toast notification feature, many popular apps support this feature and the native Mail app is one of them. Even though the Mail app that ship with Windows 8 supports notifications, it doesn’t display notifications whenever new messages comes to your inbox. Even though Mail app updates the its live tile on the Start screen with recent messages, you can configure the Mail app to display toast notification on your screen whenever you receive a new email.

 

Complete the given below instructions to turn on email notifications feature in Mail app:

NOTE: We assume that you have already added one or more email accounts to the Mail app. If you haven’t configured your Mail app, check out our how to add email account to Mail app in Windows 8.

Step 1: Click or tap on the Mail app tile on the Start screen to launch it.

Step 2: Once launched, move your mouse pointer to the upper or lower right corner of the screen to see the Charms bar. Users on touch screen devices can swipe-in from the right edge of the screen to reveal the Charms bar. Click or tap Settings to see Settings charm.

Step 3: Here, click or tap Accounts to see your account(s). Click or tap the account name to which you wish to enable the email notification. Clicking or tapping the account name will open more options.

Step 4: Scroll down to see an option named Show email notification for this account. Turn on the option to enable email notification for this account. That’s it!

Please note that if you have multiple email accounts configured with Mail app, then you need to enable email notification for all of your account one-by-one.
