Toast notification is one of the hundreds of new features introduced with Windows 8. Toast notifications are brief messages that appear on the upper right-side of the screen for a few seconds when an important event takes place on your PC.
For instance, Windows 8 displays toast notification when a new app is installed on your PC. Users who don’t like to see toast notifications for a while can configure Windows 8 to hide notifications. Windows 8 lets users hide notifications for the next one, three, or eight hours.
Though all Modern UI apps don’t support toast notification feature, many popular apps support this feature and the native Mail app is one of them. Even though the Mail app that ship with Windows 8 supports notifications, it doesn’t display notifications whenever new messages comes to your inbox. Even though Mail app updates the its live tile on the Start screen with recent messages, you can configure the Mail app to display toast notification on your screen whenever you receive a new email.
