Microsoft Edge is offered by default in Windows 10 and 11. Edge, which is now based on Chromium, is updated pretty regularly.
Microsoft pushes out major updates about once a month. Additionally, minor updates, mostly security fixes, are released between major updates.
Because Edge gets updates very often, the browser is designed to automatically download and install updates. The browser requires a restart only after installing a major version update.
However, Edge might sometimes take a day or two to get the latest update. If you are excited to try out a feature offered in the newest version of Edge and cannot wait for Edge to automatically download and install the update, you can manually update Edge to the latest version.
Needless to say, when you update Edge to the latest version, saved passwords, favorites, browsing history, and other data will not be deleted. Only the Edge installation will be updated to the newest version.
Here is how to update Microsoft Edge to the latest available version.
Update Microsoft Edge to the latest version in Windows 10/11 and Mac
Step 1: Open the Edge browser.
Step 2: Click the three dots (…) next to the profile icon, click Help and feedback, and then click About Microsoft Edge.
Step 3: Clicking the About Microsoft Edge option opens the About page. Additionally, the Edge will automatically start looking for updates. If available, the latest updates will be automatically installed.
And if no updates are available, you will see a “Microsoft Edge is up to date” message.
The best part is that Edge does not take much time to download and install updates. If your computer is connected to a decent internet connection, downloading updates should not take more than a few seconds. Once downloaded, it takes another few seconds to install them.
Once installed, you will be asked to restart the Edge browser to finish installing updates.
Step 4: That’s it! You have successfully updated Edge to the latest version. You can now type edge://version/ in the address bar and then hit the Enter key to know the version number.
