At times, we need to run an application with administrator rights in Windows. If you are one of the millions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 user, you probably know how important it is run a program with admin privileges to access and change advanced system settings.
But in Windows 8, right-clicking on a program in the Start screen won’t display Run as administrator option. While Run as administrator option is available when you right-click on a program shortcut on the desktop, the same option doesn’t appear when you right-click on program shortcut in the Start screen. So, how to run a program with admin rights in Windows 8? Here is how:
Step 1: Switch to the Metro Start screen and start typing the program’s name to see your program under Applications list.
Step 2: Right-click on the program name to see Advanced option.
Step 3: Click on Advanced and then select Run as administrator option.
Tip: You can also use the good old hotkey (Ctrl + Shift + Enter) method to run a program with admin rights. That is, for example, type CMD in Start screen and then press Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys to open elevated Command Prompt.

I’ve tried hotkeys, right clicking shortcut on desktop and every other method I can find. Question is why isn’t “run as administrator” in the right click menu to start with in the same instance that it was in windows 7. MS is going backwards just when I thought they couldn’t get worse.

But how do you run “Services” as administrator in 8.1 since search no longer shows results under ‘Apps”? Search now displays it in a list as ‘View Local Services”. Just highlight the selection if it isn’t the first in the list, then CTRL-Shift-Enter starts the prompt for administrator logon.

If you go to the actual program in your Program Files folder, then you can right click on it, go to Properties->Compatibility->”Run as administrator”, check that box, then the associated icon on the start menu will always run as admin.

Here another alternative to Open IE in Win8 as Admin:
1. On Taskbar right click on Internet Explore
2. It will show following Options in menu
Unpin this program from taskbar
Close all Windows
Internet Explorer
3. Again right click on Internet Explorer with in that menu and click on “Run As Admin”
Done!! :)

Yes, that Ctrl + Shift + Enter always works. But not all users are comfortable with hotkeys.:)
