Tens of free tips and tutorials are available on the Internet to save both ink and paper while attempting to print a document or web page. One can reduce graphic resolution, optimize the print layout, and use eco-friendly fonts to save ink or toner. But if you are looking for a few more ways to save ink toner, you should check out GreenCloudPrinter.
GreenCloudPrinter is a free software for Windows designed to save both ink and paper. The developers of the software claim that one can easily save up to 40% of ink by installing and using GreenCloudPrinter. The idea behind GreenCloudPrinter is simple. It provides a print preview window that allows you to eliminate unwanted pages, add more pages per sheet, and tune link usage, and enable duplex printing before sending the print job to your default printer.
Using GreenCloudPrinter is pretty simple. You select a document or web page, click the print button (Ctrl + P button works too) to open the standard Print dialog. On the Print dialog box, you select GreenCloud as your printer and click Ok button.
As soon as you click ok button, the GreenCloud window will appear where you can view the preview of the selected page(s) for the print job. On the GreenCloud window, you can add or remove the page(s) by clicking the icon on the upper right corner of the page. Click on the same icon to toggle between add or remove functions.
The main attraction of GreenCloud is that it lets you save the ink by replacing colored text with a grey one. That is, GreenCloud automatically detects colored text present on a page and then replaces it with grey before sending the page(s) to the print job. Though we have an option to turn off this feature, we advise not to do so.
GreenCloud also lets you save the page(s) in PDF format, send via email, send pages Google Docs, and Dropbox services right from the preview window.
One can also enable two-sided printing (duplex printing) feature to print on both sides of the sheet. Please note not all printers support duplex printing feature.
Once done, click on the Print button to allow the default printer to do its job. Overall, a handy software to save some ink.
