Are you fed up with the frequent banner notifications from apps on the Windows 10 desktop? Want to turn off all notifications or notifications only for apps that annoy you the most? In this guide, we will see how to do just that.
Notifications are a great way for apps to keep users informed. However, at times, you might feel that notifications are distracting you from your actual work. For instance, if you are flooded with new email desktop notifications, you might want to turn off the Mail app’s email notifications.
Luckily, recent versions of Windows 10 offer many settings and options to change the default behavior of notifications. In this guide, we will see how to turn off notifications for all apps, turn off notifications for a specific app, and turn off only desktop banner or action center notifications.
Important: We do not recommend turning off notifications for antivirus programs or programs that you have installed to enhance the security, as doing so might prevent your antivirus program from alerting you about a virus or malicious software.
Turn off all notifications for all apps in Windows 10
Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to System > Notifications & actions page.
Step 2: In the Notifications section, toggle off the option labeled Get notifications from apps and other senders. Turning off this option will disable both banner and action center notifications for all apps installed on your computer.
Turn off notifications for a specific app
Step 1: Go to System > Notifications & actions page.
Step 2: Here, in the Notifications section, locate the app’s entry for which you want to turn off notifications (desktop banner and action center notifications). Change the toggle switch position to Off to turn off all kinds of notifications from the selected app or program.
Turn off only desktop banner (bottom right corner) or action center notifications for a specific app
Step 1: Navigate to Settings > Notifications & actions page.
Step 2: On this page, scroll down the page to see Get notifications from these senders section.
And if you wish to disable only the desktop banner or only action center notification, click on the app’s entry.
Step 3: In the resulting page, deselect Show notification banners option to turn off desktop notifications for that app. Deselect the option titled Show notifications in action center to stop the app from displaying notifications in the action center.
When you are on this page, you can also turn off notification sounds for the selected app, the number of visible notifications from the app in the action center, and the priority of notifications (in the action center).
