The Ultimate edition is the highest edition of the widely used Windows 7 operating system. The Ultimate edition is popular among Windows enthusiasts and developers who love to have a feature-packed edition of Windows.

Now that Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 is a free upgrade for existing Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users, the majority of PC users are planning to upgrade their installation to Windows 10 in the first year of the release to avail the free upgrade offer.

On top of that, one can upgrade to Windows 10 without losing data and by keeping most of the installed programs. And if you prefer a clean install over upgrade, you can do so after upgrading to Windows 10.

Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro

If you are on Windows 7 Ultimate edition, when you upgrade to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will get Windows 10 Pro edition as part of the upgrade. This is because there is no Ultimate edition of Windows 10. In fact, the Pro edition is equivalent to the Ultimate edition Windows 7.

Upgrading your Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 is fairly easy and we will show how you can upgrade your Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 for free. But before that, there are some things that you should know before thinking of upgrading to Windows 10. Here are some of the points you need to know before upgrading to Windows 10.

Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate

# The free upgrade is available only in the first year of the official release of Windows 10. Once you upgrade to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you don’t need to pay Microsoft to continue using Windows 10. In other words, Windows 10 is free for life.

# Some of the features of Windows 7 are not available in Windows 10. For instance, Windows Media Center is not part of Windows 10 and there is no way to install Windows Media Center in Windows 10. Some other popular features like Aero glass transparency, desktop gadgets, and the classic Start menu are not officially available in Windows 10.

# Classic Windows games are not present in Windows 10. The modern or metro version of those apps have been released and can be downloaded from the official Windows Store for free. Refer to our how to get classic Windows 7 games in Windows 10 guide for more information on that.

Step 1: First of all, make sure that you’re running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 with all recently released updates.

Step 2: Run the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor tool available in the Get Windows 10 app to check if your PC’s hardware and installed applications are compatible with Windows 10. If there are any issues with the hardware, please install the latest available drivers to sort out driver issues.

Likewise, some antivirus programs might not be compatible with Windows 10 and you might be asked to remove incompatible software before the upgrade.

Step 4: After the official release of Windows 10 on July 29th, you’ll see a notification that Windows 10 installation files have been downloaded onto your PC. Click on the notification to begin upgrading your Windows 7 Ultimate edition installation to Windows 10 for free.

I have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 Ultimate. The version of Ultimate was installed on a computer bought in China while I was working there a few years ago. The settings were changed by the technician to give me an English interface. After upgrading to Windows 10 the interface is back in Chinese. How can I get it back to English (short of returning to the store in China)?

I currently have Win 7 Ultimate and Win 10 Insider Review 10159 on a dual boot Dell XPS M1210. Both win 7 and Win 10 are 32bit. The processor in this laptop is a 64bit. I would like to end up with JUST a 64 bit version of the RTM release of Win 10. Can you walk me through the steps required to accomplish this? I know I will have to do a clean install of Win 10 but I’m not sure how to get rid of the dual boot.

We suggest you upgrade your Windows 7 on HDD to Windows 10 first. Once done, you can transfer Windows 10 installation to SSD or re-install Windows 10.

What about Bitlocker? Which i personally think should be standard in all Windows Editions, but previously it was Enterprise/Ultimate only i think.

Yup, it’s possible to upgrade from pirated version but the Windows 10 will continue to remain pirated. In short, you don’t get genuine Windows 10 when you upgrade from pirated version of windows 7/8.1. Hope this helps.
