On Friday of last week, we published a guide on how to make Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 look like Windows 7 again. The guide is useful for those who aren’t happy with the new design of Windows 8 and 8.1, and provides detailed instructions on getting back the look and feel of Windows 7 in Windows 8 and 8.1 by installing a couple of third-party programs and disabling some features introduced with Windows 8 and 8.1.
The guide shows how to disable all annoying features of Windows 8 and 8.1, and also helps you enable all missing features, including the good old Start menu by installing a free software called ViStart. Before beginning to write the guide, I installed my favourite ViStart to enable the Start menu and took some screenshots of the Start menu for the guide.
After taking some screenshots of ViStart Start menu and publishing the post, I uninstalled the program as I find Start screen more easier and powerful than the old Start menu.
After uninstalling ViStart, I noticed that for some reason Start text was appearing on the extreme left of the taskbar (in place of ViStart’s start orb). Since I had already uninstalled ViStart, clicking on the Start text didn’t show any option as well.
After playing with the taskbar for some time, I finally found a way to remove the Start text. If Start text is appearing on the taskbar even after completely uninstalling the ViStart program, you need to follow the below mentioned instructions to remove the Start text.
Step 1: Right-click on the empty space of taskbar.
Step 2: Click Toolbars and then uncheck the option titled Start. That’s it! The Start text will disappear from the taskbar.
If you are on Windows 8.1 and would like to hide or remove the Start button, you can follow our how to hide or remove the Start button in Windows 8.1.
