All major desktop and smartphone operating systems come with their own app stores so that users can install apps from a trusted place. The other advantage of a built-in app store is that users can easily find new and helpful apps available for their devices and also install an app based on user reviews.
In Windows 10/11, the app store is called Microsoft Store, called just App Store in iOS and macOS, and it’s known as Play Store on Android devices.
Just like the Microsoft Store in Windows 10/11, Mac’s App Store offers apps and games. Launched back in 2011 with just a thousand apps, the Mac App Store now has over thirty thousand apps.
While the number of apps on the Apple App Store (on Mac) is pretty low compared to the apps in the iOS App Store (which has about five million apps), it still has a pretty good collection. Moreover, all apps developed originally for iPhone and iPad can now be installed on Macs powered by Apple’s own chips or Apple silicon. So, if you are using an Apple silicon-powered Mac like the MacBook Air M2, the Mac Store offers you millions of apps. In other words, you can install apps available for iPhone/iPad on your Mac with Apple silicon chips
Download and install apps from the App Store in macOS

Step 2: Once the App Store is launched, use the search field in the left pane to find the app that you wish to install on your Mac.
Step 3: Click the Get button and then the Install button to download and install the app immediately on your Mac.
If you are asked to authenticate yourself, either type the password or press the touch ID button to authenticate using your fingerprint.
Depending on the size of the app and your internet speed, the selected app might take seconds to a few minutes to get installed.
