Microsoft To-Do, the replacement for the popular Wunderlist, is finally available for Windows 10, iPhone and Android phones.
Since the team behind Wunderlist is developing Microsoft To-Do, the To-Do has borrowed some design clues from Wunderlist. The current version of To-Do allows you create lists and tasks. You can add due date, reminders, and notes to tasks. Features l
It could be because this is the first version of Microsoft To-Do or it could be because the team behind To-Do has not thought about it just yet, the current version of Microsoft To-Do doesn’t allow you to restore deleted lists and tasks. So, if you accidentally delete a list or task, there is no option in the To-Do app to restore the deleted list or task. While there is an option to view completed tasks, there is no option to restore deleted tasks.
Luckily, there is a way to restore deleted To-Do tasks. All Microsoft To-Do tasks and lists are stored on Microsoft Exchange Online, and these tasks and lists appear in your Outlook Tasks by default. Since Outlook allows you restore deleted items, you can use that feature to restore deleted Microsoft To-Do tasks and lists.
Complete the given below directions to restore deleted Microsoft To-Do tasks and lists.
Method 1 of 2
Restore deleted To-Do tasks
To restore deleted To-Do lists, please follow the directions mentioned in Method 2.
Step 1: Open Office Outlook program. If Outlook is not installed, install the same and sign in with the same Microsoft account that you use to sign in to Microsoft To-Do.
Step 2: In the Outlook, open your email folder list, and then click Deleted items to view all deleted items, including Microsoft To-Do tasks.
Step 3: Locate the deleted To-Do task that you want to restore. Right-click on it, click Move, click Other Folder and then select Tasks. Click OK.
The restored task should now automatically re-appear in its original list from where you deleted it.
Method 2 of 2

Step 4: Right-click on the deleted list that you want to restore, click Move folder, and then move it to Tasks folder to automatically see the list in your To-Do app.

I do use Outlook and I have to say that Method 2 worked for me. But no more relying onToDo after this nightmare.

I found the deleted Tasks/list if I export all the To Do’s from Outlook.com

After copying the missing Tasks/list to Tasks in my POP-connected O365 account in Outlook (desktop app), the restored Tasks/list still doesn’t reappear in MS To Do!!! AGH!

I’ve been using Wunderlis then To Do the 7 years for work on my phone and home pc. I have everything on To Do. On my phone I mysteriously lost about 80 lists along with lots of notes and content within those list. My pc still shows all of my lists. Now I’m afraid that the synch function will make those disappear as well.
I apparently have no way to save this original list. I don’t use Outlook. I did try to install Outlook on my phone but it doesn’t show any deleted To Do lists.
I installed Outlook on my pc but it doesn’t show To Do or any Tasks.
This is a major goof by Microsoft To Do team and it needs to be fixed ASAP.

Yup, one slip of the mouse to delete rather than save, and its gone for ever…. imagine that in 2021

The missing lists are not in the deleted folder or ANYWHERE. I had several lists including with assignments for my direct reports across several teams. This is seriously disastrous.

I also don’t use Outlook for email. I kind of like MS to-do. But without a way to backup though, it can’t realistically be used for anything. I regrettably just moved all my lists into it.

wunderlist.com/restore had it build directly into their website. Microsoft/Wunderlist team, please re-enable this funtionality. THANK YOU!

…I don’t use Outlook for MAIL! … I just use that damn TO-DO App by Microsoft!.
What a piece of fraking crap that software is. I logged out and in again on my cell phone and all my To DO lists were gone!
Also it doesn’t sync between devices, even when you try to manually sync.
I hate you Microsoft.
One day, a team of Magus will descend upon all who have profited and are connected to Microsoft and they will torment and stress them – like a living HELL! … just as Microsoft has done to USERS since the 1990s!
Hell awaits you Microsoft.
