Turning Aero glass transparency off is one of the easiest ways to extend the battery life of a notebook or netbook running Windows 7. Turning Aero transparency is also fairly simple in Windows 7. You just need to open the Personalization panel (by right-clicking on desktop and then clicking Personalize option), click Window color and then uncheck Aero transparency option.
Sure, there are plenty of free as well as paid applications out there to automatically turn off Aero glass transparency in Windows 7 when you unplug your laptop from the mains. That is, as soon as your laptop starts using the power from its battery, those software automatically turn off Aero glass to extend the battery life.
But what many users not aware is that we don’t need to use third-party tools to automatically turn off Aero glass after unplugging the power cable from the mains or when you laptop is running on the battery power. You can easily configure Windows 7 to automatically turn off Aero as soon as it starts running on the battery power and turn on the Aero back when plugged back to the mains.
If you love the idea of configuring Windows 7 to automatically turn Aero on or off based on the power source, here is how to make it happen. Once again, you don’t need to install any third-party tools or scripts to make this happen.
Automatically turn Aero on or off based on power source
Step 1: First step is to make sure that Power Saver is the currently active power profile. If Balanced or custom power profile is active, please set Power Saver as the active power plan by clicking the battery icon in the system tray and then selecting Power Saver.
Step 2: Unplug your laptop from the mains, if connected.
Step 3: Right-click on the desktop, click Personalize to open Personalization window.
Step 4: Here, click Window color and then turn off the option labelled Aero transparency. Click Save button.
Step 5: Plug your laptop back to the mains.
Step 6: Once again, open Personalization window, click Window color, check Aero transparency and then click Save button.
That’s it! From here onwards, Windows 7 will automatically turn off Aero transparency when the power source is switched to battery. Aero transparency will be restored once the laptop is connected to the mains. The only thing you need to remember is that this method might not work when you switch to other power profiles such as Balanced.
