Fix: Edge Browser Is Slow In Windows 10

Microsoft Edge is one of the fastest web browsers around for Windows 10 operating system. It starts under 2 seconds, loads web pages faster, and is low on system resources as well.

However, at times, you might find that the Edge browser is slow or extremely slow. If the Edge takes more than a few seconds to load websites, you can try out the given below solutions to make the Edge browser fast again.

Solution 1 of 4

Restart Edge and then restart Windows 10

If you have not done already, it’s a good idea to restart the Edge browser. Simply close the browser and run it again. If the Edge is still slow after restarting it, close Edge and all other applications, and then reboot your Windows 10 PC once.

If the browser is still slow, proceed with other solutions given below.

Solution 2 of 4

Turn off or uninstall Edge extensions

If you have installed tens of extensions, it’s a good idea to turn off them all the extensions. If the issue persists even after turning off all extensions, uninstall them to check if the Edge browser is slow because of one of these extensions. If the browser becomes fast after uninstalling Edge extensions, try installing your favorite extensions one-by-one and check the Edge browser speed after installing each extension to figure out the culprit.

To turn off and uninstall an extension:

Step 1: Click the three dots icon (…) located just below the close button and then click Extensions.

Step 2: Click on the name of an extension to see its settings. Click the Turn off option to turn off the extension.

To uninstall the extension, click the Uninstall button.

We recommend you turn off all extensions first, check the browser speed and then uninstall extensions only if required.

Solution 3 of 4

Repair the Edge browser

If uninstalling extensions doesn’t help, you can try to repair the Edge browser. Microsoft recommends users to repair the Edge browser when the browser is not working well. So, you can go ahead and repair the Edge browser.

The good thing about this method is that it won’t affect your data such as browsing history, favorites and passwords.

Here is how to repair the Edge browser:

Step 1: Close the Edge browser, if it’s running.

Step 2: Open the Settings app. Navigate to Apps > Apps & features.

Step 3: Click on Microsoft Edge entry to see Advanced options link. Click Advanced options link.

Step 4: Click the Repair button to repair the Edge browser. That’s it!

Solution 4 of 4

Reset the Edge browser to default settings

Resetting the Edge browser is the ultimate solution to reset Edge browser settings and make the Edge browser fast again. Remember that resetting the browser will delete browsing history, saved passwords, favorites, and other data saved in the browser. So, backup these data first before proceeding to the reset job.

Resetting the Edge browser:

Step 1: Navigate to Settings app > Apps > Apps & features.

Step 2: Click on Microsoft Edge entry. Click Advanced options link.

Step 3: Click the Reset button. When you see the confirmation, click the Reset button again to rest the Edge browser.

As said, you will lose browsing history, passwords, and settings.
