Fix: Windows 10 Mail App Is Not Opening

Last Updated on February 12, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

I have been using the native Mail app since the release of Windows 10 and was happy with it until it started developing issues. This past weekend, when I clicked the replay button, the Mail app simply crashed and closed. At first, I thought it’s because I accidentally clicked the close button, but that was not the case.

Mail app crashes or doesn’t open in Windows 10

Since that day to this morning until I managed to fix the issue, the Mail app failed to open, or even it opened it would crash or close upon clicking the Replay button.

If you’re also unable to open the Mail app or if it closes when you click replay or any other button, you can try out the following fixes. You can also try out the following fixes if you’re experiencing any type of issues with the Mail app.

Fix 1

Run the official Store Apps troubleshooter

Although this official troubleshooter to address Store apps issues didn’t help me to fix the issue, this might help you fix your issue. Download Store Apps Troubleshooter from this link and then run it. It’s better to close down the Mail app if it’s running.

Fix 2

Reregister Mail and other apps

If the above troubleshooter doesn’t yield good results, try reregistering the Mail app. Since there is no working way to reregister just the Mail app, we need to reregister all preinstalled or built-in apps by executing a command in PowerShell.

The procedure to reregister the Mail app requires you run a command in the PowerShell, but it’s relatively easy. Simply follow given below directions without any deviations to reinstall the Mail app.

Here is how to that:

Step 1: Close the Mail app if it’s running.

Step 2: Open the PowerShell with admin rights. To do so, type PowerShell in Start menu search box, right-click on Windows PowerShell and then click Run as administrator.

Click Yes button when you see the User Account Control prompt.

Step 3: Copy and paste the following command in the PowerShell and then press Enter to execute the command.

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

Once done, close the PowerShell.

Fix 3

Reset the Mail app

Windows 10 allows you to reset an app to sort out issues without reinstalling the app. Please refer to our how to reset the Mail app in Windows 10 guide to easily reset Windows 1o Mail.

Fix 4

Reinstall the Mail app

In my case, this method is the one that helped me to solve the issue. If none of the above methods, this method should make the Mail app work again.

WARNING: Reinstalling the Mail app will remove any saved mails and might also remove credentials, meaning you might need to sign-in all over again.

In order to reinstall the Mail, please refer to our how to reinstall the Mail app in Windows 10 guide for step-by-step instructions.
